Wishlists: worth having once the saves reach your emails

A customer telling you, product by product, what they'd buy if the moment were right. If the saves never reach your emails, nobody's listening.

A wishlist save with no email address is a note nobody reads

A save from somebody you can't identify helps them and nobody else. The saves that matter are tied to an account or an email address, because those are the ones your flows can act on.

So ask at the moment of saving. A heart button that offers to tell them if it drops in price or runs low is a sign-up form with the reason built in, shown at the exact moment someone's interested.

The emails a wishlist should be feeding

What happens to the saved itemThe email it earns
The price dropsA price drop alert, the day it changes
Stock runs lowA heads-up while there's still some left
It sells out, then comes backA back in stock email, savers first
Nothing, for weeksOne gentle reminder, then leave it alone

Pick a wishlist app that sends each save to Klaviyo as an event, so all of that can run as flows. If it can't, it's a bookmark tool, not a marketing one. The price drop flow and the back in stock flow are where saves turn into orders.

What wishlist saves tell you about your range

Wishlists are also the cheapest research you'll get. A product that's saved all the time and rarely bought has a price, page or delivery problem worth finding. A sold-out product with a long queue of savers is a reorder decision made for you.

Shared wishlists earn their keep at Christmas and birthdays, when someone else is doing the buying. Make them easy to send by message, and the person buying the present arrives knowing exactly what to get.

Is a wishlist worth adding to a Shopify store?

If it feeds your emails, usually. If it doesn't, it's a feature customers use and you never hear about. Before you install one, check that it sends saves to Klaviyo and lets people save with just an email address. Make them create an account first and plenty of the people who'd use it will stop at the log-in screen.

What's the difference between a wishlist and an abandoned cart?

Commitment and timing. A cart says I nearly bought this today. A save says I'd like this, some day. Treat them differently: an abandoned cart gets a reminder within hours, a save gets an email when something changes, like the price, the stock or the season.

Should wishlist emails include a discount code?

Not by default. The save already tells you they want it, so a code mostly hands margin to someone who was coming back anyway. Let the price drop, the low stock warning or the restock do the work. Keep any code for the last reminder, if you send one at all.

Rather we explained it on your own account?

Bring your Klaviyo account to a growth consultation. We'll walk through what this means for your numbers, in plain English, and what we'd fix first.
