Trending products: spot them in your own data before you email about them
Products selling faster than they were, not the ones that always sell most. Spotted early, it's an easy email. Spotted late, it's a stock problem.

- A short trending block in campaigns, and a starting point for new subscribers
Trending is a change in speed, not a place in the chart
Your best sellers sell the most over months. A trending product is picking up pace right now, and it might still be well down the list. The difference matters, because best sellers belong in your evergreen emails and trending products belong in this week's.
Your own data is the first place to look. Compare recent views and orders by product with the weeks before, and sort by the change, not the total.
- Shopify's sales by product report, compared with the previous period
- Klaviyo's product performance report, with views, checkouts and orders by product
- Your site search report, for products people ask for by name
- TikTok and Google Trends, as a prompt to check your own numbers, never instead of them
Check the stockroom before you send the crowd
Put a trending product in an email and you send a crowd to one shelf. Before it goes in a campaign, check how much you've got, how fast it's going and how long a reorder takes. Selling out halfway through a send is worse than not mentioning it.
If it does sell out, make the sell-out useful. Switch on back in stock alerts so the waiting list builds itself, then send a proper restock email to everyone else when it lands.
Where a trending product earns its place in your emails
- A short trending block in campaigns, two or three products, refreshed every send
- The welcome flow, where a new subscriber who doesn't know your range needs somewhere to start
- Browse abandonment, as the fallback when the product someone viewed has sold out
Call it trending only when your numbers say so, and take the badge off when they stop. A selling fast label on everything soon means nothing, and customers notice before you do.

FAQs

How do we find trending products in our Shopify data?
Run the sales by product report for the last week or two, compare it with the period before, and sort by how much each product moved, not by its total. Do the same with product views in Klaviyo. A product climbing on both is trending. One climbing on views alone might have a page that's putting people off.
Should we launch products to chase TikTok trends?
Only if your supply can keep up. A trend can peak and fade inside one reorder, which leaves you holding stock nobody wants any more. It's usually safer to ride a trend with products you already stock, angled to fit, and save new launches for demand that's lasted.
Is it misleading to call a product trending?
Only when it isn't. Back the claim with your own numbers, and use words that match them: popular this week, back in stock, nearly gone. Customers spot a badge that never comes off, and once they stop believing one label they stop believing the rest.
Rather we explained it on your own account?
Bring your Klaviyo account to a growth consultation. We'll walk through what this means for your numbers, in plain English, and what we'd fix first.
