Your product catalogue is the data every product email is built from
Every product you sell, with its titles, prices, images, variants and stock. Customers see it on your site. Your emails, feeds and ads read it too, mess and all.

One catalogue, read by every channel you sell through
Your catalogue lives in your ecommerce platform, but it doesn't stay there. Klaviyo syncs it for product blocks and recommendations. Google Shopping, Meta and any marketplace you sell on read their own copy. A messy title or a missing image doesn't stay on one page. It turns up everywhere at once.
That's also the good news. Fix the catalogue once and every channel that reads it gets better with it.
What a messy catalogue looks like in an email
- A product block mixing cut-outs with lifestyle shots, so the email looks like three different shops
- Titles carrying internal codes or supplier names nobody searches for
- Recommendations showing things that sold out last week
- A relaunched product listed as new, so its reviews and order history start again from nothing
- Colour variants sharing one image, so the back in stock email shows the wrong colour
None of these are email problems, and none of them get fixed in Klaviyo. They get fixed in the catalogue, so look there before anyone redesigns a template.
How Klaviyo reads your product catalogue
On Shopify, connecting Klaviyo syncs your catalogue and keeps it updated: products, variants, prices, images and stock. Product blocks pull straight from it. Product feeds pick items by rules you set, stock level included, so recommendations can skip things you can't ship.
Two flows depend on it completely. The back in stock flow watches stock at variant level, and the price drop flow watches prices on things people looked at. Both are only as honest as the catalogue behind them. If yours needs a tidy, go in this order.
- Images: the same angle, background and crop for every main shot
- Titles: the words a customer would use, with no internal codes
- Variants: every size and colour set up properly, each with its own SKU and image
- Stock: synced and accurate, because alerts and feeds read it

FAQs

How does Klaviyo get our product catalogue?
Through your platform's integration. On Shopify, connecting Klaviyo syncs products and variants with their prices, images and stock, and keeps them updated as they change. Other platforms have their own integrations, and anything custom can be sent as a catalogue feed. Spot check a few products in Klaviyo against your shop before you trust it.
Why do sold-out products keep appearing in our emails?
Usually because nobody told the feed to leave them out. Klaviyo's product feeds can filter by stock level, so set a minimum and recommendations stop offering what you can't ship. Products picked by hand for a flow email are worth checking too, especially in flows that have been running for a while.
Should every colour variant have its own image?
Yes. The variant image is what turns up in back in stock alerts, abandoned cart emails and product feeds. Without one, the person waiting for the green one gets an email showing the black one, and that reads as a mistake even when the stock's right.
Rather we explained it on your own account?
Bring your Klaviyo account to a growth consultation. We'll walk through what this means for your numbers, in plain English, and what we'd fix first.
